Department of Practical Subjects

The Practical Subjects Department is a vibrant department which comprises four areas namely Physical Education, Sport and Mass Displays (PESMD), Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), PESMD (Main Study) and Music (Main Study). The Main Study areas’ main thrust is to expose student teachers to extensive and intensive theory and to develop in them high performance practical skills for personal growth and for the benefit of the society. Upon course completion, the teachers who would have chosen to do these Main Study areas might even decide to pursue music or PESMD careers and create employment for themselves and others. VPA and PESMD which are not Main Study areas are offered as Professional Syllabus ‘B’ (once known as Applied Education). They are compulsory to every student including those who would have chosen to do the Main Study areas. The main thrust of these compulsory courses is to train a primary school teacher who is resourceful, creative and proficient in implementing the Primary School VPA and PSMD syllabi.
The department is manned by specialists who are self-starters. Apart from making sure that students sail academically, the staff in the department is also committed to market the college positively to the world by motivating and coaching students to participate competitively in national and or regional sporting and musical activities such as ZITCOSA, ZTISU, ZIZAMA, CUCSA, TIFAZ and RIO-SET. The Practical Subjects Department is a pillar department which does the college proud.
